Army to meet Jawalakhel for trophy

Both Army, who finished the league stage on top winning all eight matches, and JWSC won their last two league matches on Saturday at the St Xavier’s College court. Army overcome Nepal Spinal Cord Injury Sports Association (NSCISA) 41-14 and Bodhisatwas In Action (BIA) 29-13. They finished with 16 points, two ahead of Jawalakhel. Raju Katuwal contributed 16 points for the departmental team in their victory over NSCISA before Narayan Dawadi netted 16 points against BIA.
Jawalakhel, who had lost their only match against Army in the league, registered 23-12 win over Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Centre (SCIRC) 23-12 before beating NSCISA 25-22. Damber Magar netted valuable eight points in JWSC’s win over SCIRC and Dan Bahadur Thing contributed 10 points against NSCISA. Jawalakhel finished the league round with 14 points from eight matches.
The final between the Army and Jawalakhe will be played on June 30. BIA who finished third with 12 points will play either Pokhara or WSA in the third place playoff match. Pokhara stand fourth with 10 points after playing all eight league matches. WSA have six points with two matches in hand. WSA could level on points if they win both of their remaining matches. The fourth team will be determined on the basis of better score in the case two teams finish equal on points.
NSCISA (four points from six matches), SIRC (four points from seven matches) are sixth and seventh in the standings. Bottom placed Nepalgunj returned without opening score while Chitwan finished second from bottom with one win.
In the women’s event, Women Wheelchair Basketball Association (WWBA) registered their third win in a row defeating JWSC JWSC 8-4. Nirmala Bhandari scored four points for the winners.
WWBA have six points from three matches and JWSC are yet to open account in the table after playing equal number of matches. Rajani Rai netted all four points for BIA in their 4-2 win over NSCISA. BIA are second with four points while NSCISA are pointless from two matches. WSA thump JWSC 17-0 to earn their first point. Jyoti Aryal alone netted eight points for the winners.
