The Amar Jyoti Janata Secondary School remained closed on Tuesday following Devkota’s death on Monday. Devkota passed at Neuro Hospital in Bansbari, Kathmandu, after a long battle against gall bladder cancer.
“We held a minute of silence and closed the school for a day,” said school Principal Gobinda Khanal.
Devkota was admitted to the school in fifth grade and appeared in the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination in 2026 BS. Devkota was classmate of Naya Shakti Party coordinator Baburam Bhattarai.
Principal Khanal said Devkota had reached the school around 15 days ago before taking ill and discussed ways to improve the quality of education. He had also contributed Rs 200,000 in total for the school and construction of hostel during his tenure as health minister.
