Backward women boost skills
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) in association with Federation of Nepal Cottage and Small Industries (FNCSI) has jointly started a 15-day women entrepreneur-training event in 10 wards.The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) in association with Federation of Nepal Cottage and Small Industries (FNCSI) has jointly started a 15-day women entrepreneur-training event in 10 wards.
KMC Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khagdi inaugurated the event on Wednesday. “This training will make women more independent. The training is going on smoothly and the participants are actively taking part in pursuing new skills, ” said Khadgi. Talking to the Post she said, such training would be of great help in brining self-confidence among women.
The ten wards are 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 13, 14 and 16. Each ward office has selected at least 10 women from lower economic background, dalit and single women.
Chairperson of Ward-4 Mohan Bistha said, “In our ward the selected women are being trained to make crystal garlands at the Community Women Office.” Two weeks ago, the ward office presented bakers’ certificates to 52 women for completing the course.
Each ward has given a different kind of vocational training to the selected women.
The selected women from wards 2 and 3 are learning to make knitting bags and sandals from velvet. The participants from wards 4 and 16 are learning to make crystal and pearl garland while those from wards 5 and 6 are learning to make soap.
Women from wards 7 and 8 are learning to prepare pickles and those from ward 10 are learning to make various decorative designs from Nepali paper. Women from wards 13 and 14 are learning beautician training from an expert hired by FNCSI.
FNCSI President Sita Karki said, once the vocational training is over, the participants would be taught marketing strategies and the skills to handle customers.
