Doctors affiliated to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) Junior Resident Welfare Society have launched a protest demanding the government amend the proposed Scholarship Management and Mobilisation Procedure 2075 for medical students.Doctors affiliated to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) Junior Resident Welfare Society have launched a protest demanding the government amend the proposed Scholarship Management and Mobilisation Procedure 2075 for medical students.
As a part of their protests, the doctors affiliated with the society have boycotted all academic programmes from Tuesday and have warned of shutting down all services at the hospital, except emergency services, from Wednesday.
The government has proposed that medical students, who have been awarded scholarships, should work as a civil servant for five years at any hospital. The irate doctors have demanded that the government should rectify the provision that makes them work under a grade eight doctor, who studied in a private medical college, despite the ones under the scholarship programme being a grade nine doctors.
The protesting doctors have also raised objection to the government move to propose the Scholarship Management and Mobilisation Procedure without consulting the concerned medical students saying that the government should be formulating Acts that would reform the medical education sector.
