Chief District Officer Gajendra Bahadur Shrestha ordered the punishment to Rekha Gupta, 35, and Anita Gupta, 29, of Bhalubanh, Rapti Rural Municipality for thrashing Dil Maya Pun, 39, of Thadokola, Sitaganga Municipality-9 in Arghakhaanchi. CDO Shrestha informed that the Gupta duo has also been ordered to bear the treatment cost of Pun amounting to Rs 7,820.
The Gupta duo thrashed and tore Pun’s clothes in the process on June 8 in Bhalubang for allegedly not selling a piece of land at their desired amount.
Following the incident, the police had settled the matter saying that it was a minor scuffle incident. However, the Gupta duo was arrested on June 10 after the video of the incident went public.
CDO Shrestha said that this precedent of action being taken against the perpetrators would discourage violence against women in public place.
