Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC has refused to receive treatment from the team of doctors sent by the government.

Dr KC has been staging his 15th hunger strike in Jumla for the past 6 days, seeking reforms in the country’s medical education sector.

The government following a secretary level decision (Ministry of Health) had sent a team of doctors from Bir Hospital comprising of senior physician Dr Jiwan Thapa and anesthesia and critical care specialist Dr Subas Regmi to Jumla to treat Dr KC.

Karnali Academy of Health Sciences Director Dr Pujan Rokaya informed that Dr KC denied being treated by the government sent doctors.

“The doctors here are taking good care of me like the treatment I used to receive while staging earlier hunger strikes and I have full faith in the doctors here,” said Dr Rokaya quoting Dr KC, “You (government doctors) can go back as I will not be needing you.”

Meanwhile, doctors involved in the treatment of the anti corruption crusader said that disease resisting ability of Dr KC has decreased and he is in risk of infection.
