Amid widespread criticism of the government’s activities, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged his party leaders to counter the attacks in a unified manner.

Defending the activities of his government, PM Oli, who also co-chairs the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), has claimed that his government has been working hard to establish a system in the country and everyone knows what the previous government under the Nepali Congress did.

“Whether it is Dr Govinda KC’s case or other issues, all the opposition parties have unified to attack the government. We need to counter them boldly,” said PM Oli while addressing the NCP Standing Committee meeting in Baluwatar on Thursday evening.

The main opposition NC and the civil society have been vehemently criticising government’s recent decisions, including for ‘ill-treatment’ of Dr Govinda KC and imposing ban on demonstrations at Maitighar Mandala.

When the standing committee members had raised question over the government’s performance, PM Oli claimed that the overall performance was quite effective at the national and international levels.

The ministry-wise performance of the government was poor, leaders noted, while the budgetary distribution was erroneous.

On the party’s statute and regulations, leaders including NCP Co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal said the party secretariat would finalise the draft of both the important documents within a few days after consulting with the members of the drafting committees. The standing committee members had urged the leadership to finalise the merger process of the lower committees and the sister wings at the earliest.

When the leaders started raising more questions about the government’s activities, the party leadership promised to hold a separate meeting to discuss on the issue.

“Another standing committee meeting will be held soon to discuss the activities of the central, provincial and local governments,” said party Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
