A county court in Melbourne, Australia, jailed a Nepali man for six and half years for raping and sexually assaulting a woman at her home.A county court in Melbourne, Australia, jailed a Nepali man for six and half years for raping and sexually assaulting a woman at her home.
The man has been named as Indra Bhandari, 29, by Australian medias. They have reported Bhandari, who worked as a barista, and the woman had been drinking at a pub during a night out. Bhandari shared kisses with the girl at the pub and at a park and walked the woman to her home from the night out in the inner-Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy.
Bhandari was given permission by the girl to sleep on a couch at her home. She decided to sleep on a different couch to Bhandari but woke up to find him sexually assaulting her.
Judge Richard Smith ruled kissing did not mean the girl had consented and found Bhandari guilty of having sex without consent. Bhandari denied raping the woman and Judge Smith said Bhandari’s denial showed a lack of remorse.
The jury sentenced Bhandari to six years and six months in prison. He will be eligible for parole after four years but is likely to face deportation after serving his sentence.
