NMA warns of halting entire healthcare services from July 19

Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has warned of halting all healthcare services except for emergency in the hospitals across the country if the government fails to set up a team to hold talks for addressing the demands of Dr Govinda KC within the next 48 hours.

The umbrella body of Nepali doctors on Monday said they were compelled to issue the threat of stern step as the government has remained indifferent and not taken any initiatives to save the life of the veteran orthopaedic surgeon even though his indefinite hunger strike has entered 17th day on Monday.

The NMA has said that they would halt the entire services except emergency in all private and government hospitals, nursing homes and clinics starting July 19.

The government is planning to present the controversial National Medical Education Bill in the House of Representatives.

Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) and anti-corruption crusader, Dr KC has been staging his 15th hunger strike at the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences since June 30, demanding the government incorporate the recommendations made by the Kedar Bhata Matehma led commission’s reports in the National Medical Education Bill.
