The District Police Office, Rukum said that four people died on the spot after the ill-fated jeep (Lu 1 Ja 2573) en route to Dhaulapaira from Rukumkot, Sisne Rural Municipality fell some 100 metres down the road at Dharpani at 2pm.
According to Inspector Diwakar Rijal of the District Police Office, Rukum, the deceased have been identified as Kiran Pun, 22, of Puthauttarganga Rural Municipality-2, Kumar Pun, 35, and Buddhiraj Pun of Puthauttarganga Rural Municipality-2 and Tirsana Tulachan of Puthauttarganga Rural Municipality-13.
Likewise, the other deceased have been identified as Shalini Barma, 31, of Puthauttarganga Rural Municipality-14, Lalita Pariyar, 22, of Kohalpur, Banke and Arjun BK, 28, of Bhume Rural Municipality-4.
Four persons who were critically injured in the incident have been airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment.
Police identified the injured as jeep driver Jaya Bir Kami, 52, of Musikot Municipality-12, Pramila Buda Magar, 25, of Puthauttarganga Rural Municipality-11, Dhaniram Pun and Samjhana Pun, 27, of Puthauttarganga Rural Municipality-2.
Police have suspected that slippery road condition owing to monsoon could be the reason behind the accident.
