Jul 18, 2018-
Doctors and health professionals shut OPD services in Karnali Province on Tuesday, pressing the government to take urgent measures to save the life of Dr Govinda KC. They have threatened to continue their agitation until the government addresses the fasting doctor’s demands.
OPD services at the Regional Hospital Surkhet, Karnali Academy of Health Sciences in Jumla, district hospitals and heath posts in all the eight districts of Karnali Province were halted due to the protest, affecting hundreds of patients.
Doctors and health workers in Surkhet treated patients outside the emergency unit to care for the needy hit by the shutdown of services, said Dr Dambar Khadka, medical superintendent of the regional hospital.
People of Jumla continued their agitation in solidarity with Dr KC’s demands. They took out a torch rally in Khalanga, the district headquarters, on Tuesday, asking the government to save Dr KC’s life by addressing his demands. The locals submitted more than 6,000 signatures to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli through the chief district officer on Monday.
Medics suggest CCU care
Medics involved in the treatment of Dr KC have suggested keeping the fasting surgeon in the coronary care unit (CCU) as he has been suffering from arrhythmia. Besides throat infection, Dr KC also has irregular heartbeat. Doctors have warned that heartbeat could stop anytime. Dr KC also has low WBC count, muscle cramps, dizziness and swelling.
