Postplatform: Words are flowing out

  • The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.

This muscular tongue of ours can move freely, but like all other organs of our body, it depends on our brain and our will. We can choose to use it in any way we like. We can use it as a weapon to hurt others or we can use it to give life to a lifeless soul.

Jul 18, 2018-Words have power. They can give life to your soul or take your life. Oftentimes, we do not pay attention to what we say. We say things which might hurt others when we are angry, and we can also promise a lot of things when we are happy. For example, when we are angry we might say, “Oh, how well it would be if you just died! I wouldn’t have to bear with you!” Likewise, we might say things like, “If only I could go this country, I would definitely buy you an iPhone.” In both these cases, we get into trouble because of our careless remarks. In the former case, we would have created a big distance between us. That person might remember for a long time what we said and be hurt. Similarly, in the latter case, we might not be able to buy the iPhone even if we get a visa.

In the book of Proverbs, it is written, “The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.” This is true. All of us, at one time or the other, have noticed the results of our own words. We might have pleasant memories of how our words encouraged others and how their spirits were lifted. We might also have some unpleasant memories of how what we said backfired and how we hurt another person.

This muscular tongue of ours can move freely, but like all other organs of our body, it depends on our brain and our will. We can choose to use it in any way we like. We can use it as a weapon to hurt others or we can use it to give life to a lifeless soul. People have no idea what we are thinking unless we speak something. No human being can

completely understand another human being. People evaluate us on the basis of our talk. Once you open your mouth, you let what is in your heart out, and a part of you and your thinking is exposed.

Some are very good with their words. They may not have good intentions in their heart, but their meticulous words belie the underlying motive. One great example would be of politicians who are careful of what they speak lest they hurt someone with their words. We can also notice some people who calculate what they speak, and these people are usually considered to be very wise.

The interesting thing about your talk is you can fake it too. We probably have heard tonnes of stories about how people tricked someone. You can lie too if you wish, but it would definitely not be without consequences. Furthermore, you can use it to tell the truth even if it hurts you and be relieved and satisfied. Our tongue is indeed a powerful thing. Watch out what you say, lest you destroy your life and other people’s.
