Kapilvastu
Two hundred and fifty hectares of rice paddies in Bhagawanpur, Kapilvastu, have been inundated due to the dam at Mahasai river built by the Indian side close to the Nepal-India border. Bhagwanpur villagers said India has constructed Mahalisagar Dam just 300 metres across the border, and every monsoon the dam gates are closed, causing flood on the Nepali side. Farmer Bishnu Prasad Kewat said he lost rice saplings planted on 2 bighas of land to flooding. Flood caused by the Indian dam has also affected Lauharauli village. District chief Madan Bhujel said he had requested the Water Induced Disaster Control Division Office to take up the matter with the Indian authorities. (PR)
