Law Minister Sher Bahadur Tamang has apologised for his remarks where he had said that Nepali girls who are studying or have studied MBBS in Bangladesh were bound to accede their honour to claim their certificates.

Issuing a press statement on Sunday, Minster Tamang apologised for causing distress to female students who are currently pursuing or have completed their MBBS in Bangladesh through his remarks.

“I want to apologise for the remarks that I made on that day which hurt the sentiments of girl students who are pursuing and have completed MBBS course in Bangladesh,” read the statement.

The Law Minister’s insensitive remarks which he had given while addressing a programme organised at Praxis International Academy on July 20 had drawn flak from many social media users.

In his apology statement, Minister Tamang, pointing out that there are over 2,000 Nepali girls pursuing medical education in Bangladesh, clarified that his remarks on July 20 was just to bring to the fore some of the issues that Nepali students have faced while studying abroad.

Minister Tamang, saying that ministry has received complaints of Nepali girl students committing suicide and being  subject to acts of violence, stated that the motive behind the remark was to point out the need of establishing medical education institutions in Nepal so that Nepali students don’t face such problems.
