The clash erupted after the transport entrepreneurs, who were staging demonstration outside the District Administration Office in Bharatpur against the decision of the local administration to ban three wheelers along the highway area in Chitwan district, resorted to vandalism and attacked a police station.
Police later resorted to baton charge and also fire several rounds of warning shots into the air to contain the angry mob.
The protesters pelted stones at police, vandalised vehicles and also torched a motorbike parked in front of the police station.
Police fired 10 warning shots into the air and also lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse the mob, informed Chief District Officer Laxmi Prasad Banskota.
According to an eye witness, the protester who torched the parked motorbike sustained bullet injuries during the clash with police.
The Bharatpur Metropolitan City had decided to bar all three wheelers from plying on the highway from July 21 against which transport entrepreneurs operating three wheelers had filed a writ petition at the Hetauda bench of the Patan High Court demanding annulment of the decision.
The court had called both the parties for discussion on the case on July 23. Following the meeting, the administration had barred all three wheelers from plying on the highway from July 24 citing the court verdict in their favour.
