“The proposed Academy will be built under Fifa’s funding of around Rs 30 million,” Anfa Spokesperson and member Kiran Rai said. “We have forwarded the proposal for Academy about a month earlier and they endorsed it,” said Rai. The Academy will be expanded at six bighas of land and will house a maximum of 100 players. “We have acquired six bighas from local Forest Committee and local government,” said Rai adding that they were planning to build a three storey building for hostel in the initial phase.
After going through detail estimate of the project, Anfa will start tender process as per the requirement of the Government of Nepal, added Rai. Though there are three Anfa football Academies across the country, none are meant for the girls. Anfa even has failed to run the existing academies smoothly. Only the Academy at its headquarters in Satdobato is functioning well. Two others in Dharan and Butwal are less functional. In fact, the Dharan Academy has been shut for the last five years while Butwal Academy is operated at the local level by Rupandehi District Football Association.
