Five involved in kidney racket held from Chitwan

Chitwan Police have arrested five people for their alleged involvement in a Kidney racket apparently operating from India.

Durga Bahadur Darji alias Hari Pariyar, 41, of Panchakanya Rural Municipality-4, Nuwakot; Bikram Pahari, 35, of Chandrapur Municipality-4, Rautahat; Prakash Tamang, of Bakaiya Rural Municiplaity-5, Makwanpur; Deepak Limbu, 34, of Bayarban Rural Municipality, Morang; Bishal Nepali, 28, of Uttargaya Rural Municipality-3, Rasuwa; have been arrested.

“We arrested the individuals after receiving a tip about the group that they used to visit villages to arrange people to be taken to Delhi for selling their kidneys,” said DSP Prabhu Prasad Dhakal, Spokesperson at Chitwan District Police Office.

Police initiated the investigation against them after a victim filed a complained with the police that he went to Delhi, India, with them and fled after hearing about selling kidney.

“We learnt that the kidney racket find prospective person and does preliminary test in Nepal. After taking them to Delihi, they will conduct tests whether it would be possible to extract kidney. We launched the investigation after a person, escaped from Delhi, told us about the racket,” said DSP Dhakal. Police have formed a medical response team (MRT) to look into the matter.

Chitwan District Police Office Chief, SP Sushil Singh Rathore said the arrestees were lured to work with the racket for Rs 50,000 they get for arranging a donor. “We’ve learnt from our preliminary investigation that the patient buying the kidney spends Rs 37, 00,000 in India,” said Rathore.

Police said they have been preparing to filed a case under Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) Act against the individuals. “We suspect they are just a tip of the iceberg, there could be a huge ring behind the racket. We have asked the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) for support to investigate the case,” said Dhakal.
