Speaking to the Post, director Sharma said that the play is his effort to bring to fore pertinent but seldom heard stories of today’s youths who might have been divided by geography—given the rise in the migration for foreign employment—but are united by technology.
Noted for his Kathadesh series, Sharma, who directed the historical drama Daraundi ko Paani in August last year, said that he made the switch to doing a modern play because the issues the play, LIG Picnic, brings up is “relevant and thought-provoking.”
“The state of the working class youths, their hopes, dreams and obstacles has been an issue of genuine curiosity for me. In LIG Picnic, I have tried to deal with such things and hopefully it will make the audience reflect,” Sharma said.
LIG Picnic features actors Suraj Tamu, Ram Babu Regmi, Ranjana Karki, Chhiring Sherpa, Renuka Singh, Lovely Chand, Dipendra Karki, Gopini Sedhai, Suman Khatri, and Sangita Nepali, among others.
LIG Picnic is currently being staged at Shilpee Theatre and will continue till August 1.
