To counter widespread attack on the government Nepal Communist Party (NCP) plans unity gatherings throughout the country after merging all its lower committees within the next three weeks.

The NCP-led government has faced a lot of criticism for failing to deliver its promises to citizens.

NCP chairpersons had called for the gathering of party-affiliated journalists at Dhumbarahi recently to defend the activities of the government.

The party had organised the meeting of the journalists affiliated to Press Centre Nepal and Press Chautari Nepal with the chairpersons after widespread criticism to the government.

“Reactionary forces have plotted against the government after the party unity,” co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal said at that meeting. He urged that the party should go to the people and show its strength completing the merger process at the earliest.

Therefore, the party plans to complete all merger processes of its lower committees within next three weeks.

The party has already sent the printed copies of the party statute and regulations to all the lower committees and sister wings. It has directed all the lower committees and sister wings to complete details of their merger.

Following the announcement of the merger of the two parties on May 17, the party leaders had said they would complete all the merger processes of the lower committees within next three months. However, because of the confusion following the party’s failure to complete its statutes and regulations on time, the merger was delayed.

The meeting of the party secretariat held on Saturday evening discussed about the early completion of the merger of lower committees.

Many of its wings including the youth wings have already completed their statutes and were waiting for the opinion of the party leadership to finalize the issues that they failed to decide including their leadership.

Larger organisations like that of workers may need more time to complete merger.

NCP General Secretary Bishnu Poudel said, “We shall go to the people right after completing the internal party unity.”

The party would plan at all the levels — federal, provincial and local levels.  The party would disseminate the message of party unity and create awareness among them about the government’s policies and programmes.

During the campaign, the leaders would also highlight the government’s achievements.
