Aug 10, 2018-Democratic movement fighter Durga Subedi has launched his autobiography titled ‘Biman Bidhroha: Euta Rajnitik Apaharan Bayan’ on Friday. In the book, Subedi has chronicled his experience of hijacking an aircraft for political purposes—the one and only incident of hijacking the political aircraft in Nepal.
Subedi said he decided to elaborate on the story aborted by Koirala in his biography. BP Koirala wrote in his autobiography, “I didn’t have money and the idea of hijacking a plane crossed my mind. I am wondering whether I should say it in detail or not. Let’s stop it here, now people are coming.”
Born in 1946 in Dhankuta, Subedi is the popular name in Nepal’s democratic movement.
Subedi along with BasantaBhattarai and NagendraDhungelhad hijacked an aircraft belonging to Nepal Airlines Corporation in 1973 to rob IRS 30 million of Rastrya Bank to fund Nepali Congress (NC)’s armed struggle against Panchayati System.
Meanwhile, Subedi, who spent 10 years of his life abroad and two years in an Indian prison, had also played a role ofinterlocutor in brokering peace talks between government and then UCPN (Maoist).
The book has recorded both sides of his life: his participation in armed struggle and his crucial role to end the armed struggle.
In the book published by Kitab Publishers Pvt. Ltd., Subedihas recalled the moment Nepali Congress took up arms, internal story of Koirala family, and he has also revealed a conspiracy hatched by the fellow party cadres to murder him.
Subedi has also recounted behind-the-scenes story about the meetings with then Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Chief Lokman Singh Karkiwhile his wife SushilaKarki was the Chief Justice.
“In the book, one of the hijackers has made public his experience of aircraft hijack for the first time,” said KalpanaDhakal of Kitab Publishers.
