Aug 17, 2018-
A clash erupted among the inmates of Palpa District Prison on Thursday that left two persons injured.
According to the prison administration, the skirmish broke out while a group of inmates were protesting against prison leader Laxman Chaudhary and his men. Two prisoners, Santosh Nepali and Arjun Ghimire, were injured in the incident.
Laxman Rayamajhi, one of the inmates, told the Post that they resorted to protest as Chaudhary and his gang had been bullying them for a long time.
The inmates have accused Chaudhary, his deputy Biswas Gurung and two other henchmen, Dev Narayan Dhungana and Lok Bahadur Khand of abusing them and smuggling drugs inside the prison with the aid of prison guards.
They have demanded the authorities to transfer the four men and investigate their collusion with prison guards. Prison administrator Bhaktisara Rana said the four accused men were removed from the prison facility and being held in a police lock-up to stop possible riot.
Chief District Officer Manohar Khanal said whatever illegal activities were taking place inside the prison will be investigated.
