Mother of murdered twin babies in custody
Police on Friday arrested 20-year-old Kamala Bishwokarma in Itahari, Sunsari, on charges of abandoning her twin daughters in a septic tank in Pathibhara, Yangwarak Rural Municipality-2, Taplejung district. DSP Shiva Kumar Shrestha said a team from the Area Police Office in Sunsari arrested her while she was heading towards Dharan from Itahari. The locals at Pathibhara suspected that Kamala might have beaten her daughters before dumping them into the septic tank. The twins had bruises on their bodies.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Gyanendra Bahadur Basnet said Kamala will be taken to Taplejung for further investigation. Between the twins, the eldest, Ganga, was found dead while Jamuna was still crying when she was taken out of the tank. Jamuna was rushed to Taplejung District Hospital, but the doctors referred her to Manmohan Hospital in Jhapa where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Kamala was separated from her husband a few years ago. She has been living with her mother Sanjamaya ever since.
