Nepali Congress faction led by senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel has expressed serious reservations over what it described as party President Sher BahadurDeuba’s attempt to extend his tenure by pushing back the party Mahasamiti meeting by one year.

The Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the party held in April 2017 had decided to hold the Mahasamitimeeting within mid-August to mid-September this year.

Saying that Deuba would be unsuccessful if he could not hold the Mahasamiti meeting within mid-August to mid-September, the Paudel faction has raised a moral question over the party president.

“Conspiracies are being hatched to foil the Mahasamiti meeting,” said leader Paudel, adding, “No one should be allowed to put the party at risk just to fulfill their vested interests.”

Another former General Secretary of the party Krishna Prasad Sitaula also said that Deuba would be unsuccessful if he could not hold the Mahasamiti meeting within mid-September.He warned that Deub amight have to face dire consequences if he keeps on pushing back the Mahasamitimeet.

Paudel further said that the 14th General Convention would be affected if Deubapostponed the meeting.

Vice-President Bimalendra Nidhi, however, defended Deubafor the delay holding party General Convention.

“The problem has arisen after President Deuba was not allowed to do his work by using his power,” he said.

According to Nidhi, the formation of a committee to amend the party statute was delayed due to Paudel. He said that Mahasamiti meeting would be held within mid-September if the committee succeeded in completing the work at the earliest.

“I had requested Paudel to give the name list of members to be included in the committee many times, but he turned the deaf ear,” Nidhi said.

General Secretary Shanshanka Koirala has already expressed his discontent for trying to push back the Mahasamiti meeting.
