Police arrest Bishwokarma at SC premises
Aug 24, 2018-
Khadga Bahadur Bishwokarma, spokesperson for the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal, was arrested from the premises of the Supreme Court on Thursday as soon as he was released following the court order.
This is the second time that he has been arrested from the SC premises in a week. Spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Range DSP Mohan Kumar Thapa confirmed Bishworkarma’s rearrest.
“Biswokarma has been sent to Bhojpur where he would be put on trial for three separate cases, two concerning murders and one explosion,” DSP Thapa said.
Meanwhile, a police source said that Bishwokarma was not taken to Bhojpur as planned earlier. Instead, he was transported to Nuwakot District Police Office on Thursday evening. The CPN leader faces arson charge for allegedly setting fire to the Ncell tower in Nuwakot.
Earlier, a bench of Justices Kedar Prasad Chalise and Purushottam Bhandari had ordered the government to release Bishwokarma in the presence of SC registrar, ruling that he had been kept in custody without sufficient reason. His younger brother Birendra Biswokarma had filed a habeas corpus writ at the SC.
Bishwokarma was re-arrested from the SC premises despite the warning of the SC’s joint Registrar Narayan Panthee.
On August 17, Bishworkarma was re-arrested from the SC premises after being released. He was handed over to Kavre district police, claiming they were investigating his involvement in the Ncell tower’s arson case. Bishwokarma, a former minister, was first detained from Dakshinkali in Kathmandu on August 7 on the charge of extortion.
