Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has intensified road cleaning campaign ahead of the fourth Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Co-operation (BIMSTEC). It has removed garbage from streets that VIPs would use during the summit.

The metropolis has deployed its newly acquired four jet machines and over 600 cleaning staff on road that BIMSTEC Summit VIPs would use.
The metropolis had bought five jet machines costing Rs 28.5 million. Officials said the metropolis is using one machine to clean blocked drainages.
KMC Spokesperson Gyanendra Karki said, “We won’t leave any trace of rubbish on the road, this time the KMC’s sole responsibility is to keep the road that is going to be used by the dignitaries trace free.”
The metropolis is using jet machines early morning and evening to keep the roads clean, he added.
Each machine has the capacity to hold 6,000 litres of water, which the metropolis sources from Balaju Baisdhara Park.
The routes with top priority for cleaning include Singha Durbar, Sahid Gate, Ratnapark, Airport, Tinkune, New Baneshwor, Tripureshwor, Kalimati, Soaltee Mode, Gaushala and Hyatt Regency Hotel.
KMC Environment Division Chief Hari Bahadur Kunwar said, “Cleaning staff would be deployed from early hours. Some would be deployed during day.”
