The NCP co-chair was scheduled to take part in a programme ‘Hindustan Shikhar Samagam’ organised by Hindu daily ‘Hindustan’ on August 31.
According to a source, Dahal cancelled his visit in order to avoid criticism from inside and outside the party.
It has been learnt that one hour time was allocated to NCP Chair Dahal to address the program as one of the speakers.
Another reason for Dahal cancelling the visit, as per the source, could be the NCP Chairman sharing the stage with Canadian writer of Pakistani origin Tariq Fateh who is also a rights activist and a strong critic of Pakistan. Dahal being there could have sent a negative message to Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Dahal’s secretariat has informed that the leader cancelled his Lucknow visit because he is scheduled to hold meetings with leaders participating in the BIMSTEC meet.
