Body of boat victim found

Indian authorities have recovered the body of the victim that was missing from the Rautahat boat capsize from India on Wednesday. With this, bodies of all five missing—as reported to the local administration—have been found after four days of the incident.

According to the District Police Office, the body of 45-year-old Indu Devi Kurmi, a resident of Tikuliya in Gaur Municipality-4, was found some 8km downstream at Belaghat area in India. Kurmi was returning home after collecting grass on the ill-fated boat.

The wooden boat was returning to Tikuliyaghat in Gaur Municipality-4 from Banjaraha when it capsized at around 7pm on Saturday. Twenty-four people survived the incident by swimming.

“We were informed by the locals that five persons went missing in the incident. Bodies of the locals listed as missing have been recovered from India with the support of Indian authorities,” said Chief District Officer Govinda Prasad Rijal.
