The Bam sisters were arrested on Friday, and their remand is set to expire on Thursday.
“We have not recorded any statements yet, because we are still collecting information,” said SP Kuber Kadayat, adding that they would most likely seek remand extension of the sisters to facilitate the investigation.
Nirmala, a resident of Bhimdutta Municipality-2, was found dead in a sugarcane field in Bhimdutta-18 on July 27.
A forensic report showed she had been raped and strangulated to death.
The authorities inability to identify the perpetrator even a month after the incident has raised fear and anger among Kanchanpur residents.
“Police failure to solve the crime will only boost the culprits’ morale. They might be encouraged to commit similar crimes in the future,” said a woman from Bhagatpur village.
Principal arrested on charge of sexual assault
BUTWAL: A school headmaster from Naharpur, Butwal, has been arrested on charge of molesting a girl student. Toyaram Paudel, the headmaster of Gyanpunja Boarding School, was detained on Wednesday. DSP Dil Bahadur Malla said the girl was traumatised after Paudel allegedly tried to rape her on August 11 and August 25. Police took the accused headmaster into custody after a group of locals staged a protest outside the school on Wednesday. Paudel has refused the allegation.
