In a low scoring match in Malaysia, Hong Kong chased the paltry 96 runs target in the 33rd over losing seven wickets.
Nepali bowlers had bowled well defending the low total but a half century by Anshuman Rath (52) dashed their hopes of a victory. Sandeep Lamichhane took five wickets for Nepal. Two other wickets were taken by Basanta Regmi and Sagar Pun.
Earlier winning the toss and batting first, Nepal posted a total of 95 runs after its batting wilted miserably in the must-win match.
It was a brilliant day for Hong Kong bowlers as they ripped the Nepali batting line up with quick wickets. Ehsan Khan was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets. Tanwir Afzal and Aizaz Khan had two each.
