Police clueless about 7-year-old double murder

Sep 5, 2018-

Police are still clueless about the 2011 double murder case of Indira Bhusal, district committee member of the erstwhile CPN-UML, and the supposed witness Ramkali Sunar.

Bhusal was shot dead by an unidentified gang at Badhiyatal Rural Municipality-5 in Bardiya district on August 28, 2011, while Sunar, who was believed to be the only witness to the murder, was found dead a week later in a forest.

Seven years have passed since the incident, and police are nowhere near the murderers.

Families of Bhusal and Sunar say assurance is the only thing authorities have offered them so far.

Bardiya has seen several police chiefs come and go in the past seven years. None have achieved any promising leads in the case.

After the Central Bureau of Investigation of Nepal Police drew flaks from several quarters for failing to capture the perpetrators, former Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police Keshav Prasad Adhikari had begun a fresh probe after collecting all documents related to the case from the previous investigation team.

But soon the investigation led by Adhikari also lost its steam, according to the families of the two victims.

Indra Luitel, ward chairman of Badhaiyatal-8, said the investigation so far has been very poor and demanded the authorities concerned to reopen the case.

Deputy Inspector General of Province  Sher Bahadur Basnet assured to look into the case from a different angle.

He claimed that police were reopening several unsolved murder cases that took place in the province in the past.
