Blocked Bodyguard River flows again after landslide debris cleared

SP Dipak Regmi said the water was flown in a controlled manner and there was no risk of flood downstream the river due to outburst.
The river was blocked after landslide at Turture Danda at the border between Bodyguard Rural Municipality and Dhorpatan Municipality. The blockage created a huge artificial lake. The landslide also buried two houses and three cowsheds of Chuda Bahadur Kumal and Krishna Kumal killing some of the cattles at the shed. The Kumal family were moved to safer place due to prior notice about landslide.
The landslide also blocked the Mid-hill Highway stranding hundreds of passengers travelling along it.
Local authorities had alerted human settlements at downstream Bhimgithe, Gwalichaur, Kharwang, among others. “The risk has been reduced but not completely over,” said Chief District Officer Bed Prasad Kharel.
Police said they will now try to clear the debris from the highway to resume transportation along it.
