Federalism has become unpopular due to govt’s negligence: NC
The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has concluded that the federalism has become unpopular due to the federal government’s delay in forming National Natural Resource and Fiscal Commission (NNRFC).The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has concluded that the federalism has become unpopular due to the federal government’s delay in forming National Natural Resource and Fiscal Commission (NNRFC).
Speaking at a press conference organised at the party central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur on the occasion of Constitution Day on Wednesday, party spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma said the delay in forming the commission has granted more freedom for tax determination that has made the federalism unpopular.
He said the government hasn’t been able to give name to provinces except for two and fix the provincial Capitals even after seven months have passed since the formation of provincial governments.
He opined that the implementation of federalism has become difficult due to dispute between provincial governments and the federal government.
Sharma accused the government of not taking ahead the process of constitution amendment as per the sentiment of Madhesi people and not showing honesty in the constitution implementation.
“A strange scenario has surfaced as some parties representing the government are in support of celebrating the Constitution Day and some are expressing reservations over the constitution and terming the constitution day as a black day when the country is marking Constitution Day today,” he said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
“We conclude that this kind of situation was invited due to the failure of incumbent government’s leadership,” he said.
Sharma said that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli-led government has become unsuccessful to maintain peace and security in the nation.
“The peace and security has deteriorated sharply in the last seven months after the formation of this government and the recent Kanchanpur rape and murder case has made it highly unsuccessful,” he said. “The government is trying to protect the guilty, pin the blame on innocent and opening fire on the protesters demanding justice are some of the instances of government’s failure to maintain peace and security in the nation,” Sharma added.
