A transport worker was injured in a clash between police personnel and transport workers at Sanfebagar in Achham district on Thursday.

Driver Arjun Kunwar, who sustained injuries in his eye, was initially taken to the Bayalpata Hospital from where he was referred to Dhangadhi.

The Sanfebagar Bazaar has been closed after the situation turned violent.

Police fired warning shots and also lobbed teargas shells to contain the mob after the protesters pelted stones at security personnel, Chief at District Police Office DSP JanakBahadurShahi said.

Police said the agitators have now picketed the Area Police Office, Sanfebagar.

The transport workers took to the streets demanding release of their friends who were arrested by police on Thursday. Police had arrested seven transport workers this morning for their alleged involvement in obstructing public vehicles from plying the road in Mangalsen, district headquarters of Achham.

The agitating transporters brought the vehicular movement to a halt in the district including Mangalsen bazaar in protest against the newly introduced law, which they say treat them as “third class citizen”. The strike has left hundreds of passengers in lurch.
