Police are questioning eight men and searching for two others for their alleged involvement in the rape of 19-year-old woman at Khadachakra Rural Municipality-9 in Kalikot district on Wednesday evening.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Binod Sharma on Friday said Sarjan BK, Praba BK, Gorkha BK, Jiban BK, Nabin BK, Dile Pariyar, Subash BK and Harsha BK were detained on Wednesday night after the woman was raped while returning home from a fair in Dhimu village.

The suspects have been remanded to a six-day judicial custody for investigation. Police have also launched a manhunt to capture two absconding suspects.

In her statement to police, the woman has stated that she was returning home with her younger brother after

attending a fair in Dhimu Village when 10 drunk men accosted them. The assaulters then chased away the

woman’s brother before raping her.

The woman was rescued by her elder brother and sister. This is the third incident of rape reported in Kalikot district in the last one month, DSP Sharma said.

Child rapist caught

DOLAKHA: Police on Thursday arrested a 52-year-old man from Koteshwor, Kathmandu, on charge of raping a 5-year-old girl in Dolakha district on September 2. Kamal Bajagai of Chyama in Tamakoshi Rural Municipality was at large after raping the minor, DSP Basudev Pathak said. (PR)
