In the memorandum, they have expressed their concern over the government authorities’ failure to arrest the people who raped and murdered 13-year-old Nirmala on July 26.
Women rights activists Sabitri Subedi and Helen Shrestha, among others, were present during memorandum handover.
Chief Minister Bhatta told the human rights delegation that the provincial government has taken Nirmala’s death seriously and pledged to take strong action against the culprits. “The provincial government is committed to deliver justice to Nirmala,” he said.
Before handing over the memorandum to Chief Minister Bhatta, the women rights activists and the residents of Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, had taken out a rally from Chauraha to the Chief Minister’s Office. Meanwhile, girl students from different schools in Lamki, Kailali, blocked the East-West Highway for nearly two hours on Wednesday, demanding that the government arrest the rapists and murderers of Nirmala. They said that girls and women throughout the country are feeling insecure as the authorities have failed to capture the perpetrators even after more than two months of the crime.
