Gurung named strongest man

Competing in the men’s 105kg division Gurung lifted at total of 285kg to secure gold medal. He lifted 115kg in snatch and 143kg in clean & jerk. On Wednesday, Tara Devi Pun of NPC had won the same honours in the women’s category with a total lift of 166kg. Pun had lifted 71kg in snatch and 95kg in clean & jerk in winning the gold in above 75kg division. Both the lifters won Rs 11,000 along with trophies.
South Asian Games (SAG) gold medallist Kamal Bahadur Adhikari of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) was adjudged the best lifter in senior while Prakash KC of Banke won the same honour in junior category. Devi Kumari Chaudhary of Nepal Police Club (NPC) was declared the best lifter in senior women’s category and Sanju Chaudhary of Banke in the junior. Lal Babu Paswan of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and Pallavi Chaudhary of Divine Fitness won the emerging player’s award in junior section.
Olympian Adhikari claimed gold in men’s 69kg division with a total lift of 225kg. He lifted 110kg in snatch and 145kg in clean & jerk. Mahesh Chaudhary of APF took silver with total lift of 210kg. KC lifted 99kg in snatch and 122kg in clean & jerked for a total lift of 217kg to secure gold. Sajaruddin Alam of Bara won silver with a total lift of 155kg and Prasanta Yogi of Banke the bronze with a total lift of 140kg.
Raju Chaudhary of TAC claimed gold in men’s 62kg division with a total lift of 203kg. He lifted 88kg in snatch and 115kg in clean & jerk. Mui Lama of NPC struck silver with a total lift of 187kg and Subhas Kumar Shah of APF claimed bronze with a total lift of 174kg. Prakash Ranabhat of NPC claimed the junior 62kg division title with a total lift of 161kg: 73kg in snatch and 88kg in clean & jerk. Toosar Budha Magar of Banke secured silver with a lift of 65kg in snatch and 85kg in clean & jerk for total haul of 150kg. Niraj Gupta of Parsa earned bronze with a total lift of 117kg.
Bikash Thapa of NPC struck gold in men’s 77kg division with a total lift of 242kg: 112kg in snatch and 130kg in clean & jerk. Yagya Bahadur Saru of TAC finished in silver place with a total lift of 220kg and Tilak Thapa of APF won bronze with a total lift of 185kg. The junior 77kg division saw Suraj Baisya of Banke claim gold with a total lift of 195kg: 85kg in snatch and 110kg in clean & jerk. Sulav Banset of Jhapa won silver with a total lift of 102kg.
In the men’s 85kg division, Om Prakash Baidhya of NPC struck gold with a total lift of 226kg: 100kg in snatch and 126kg in clean & jerk. Dinesh Karki of TAC earned silver with a total 203kg lift and Santosh Chaudhary of APF bronze with 198kg lift in total. In the junior 85kg division, Bikash Bhatta of Kanchanpur secured gold with a total lift of 142kg: 60kg in snatch and 82kg in clean & jerk. Nagarjun Gupta of Bara won silver with A total lift of 112kg.
Tahal Bahadur Basel of TAC won the men’s 94kg division gold with a total lift of 213kg: 88kg in snatch and 125kg in clean & jerk. Gagan Chand of NPC won silver with a total lift of 211kg and Sri Krishna Maharjan took bronze with a total haul of 210kg. In the junior 94kg division, lone contender Bishal Singh of Kanchanpur lifted 195kg in total: 85kg in snatch and 110kg in clean & jerk.
Pukar Gurung of TAC won gold in men’s above 105kg division lifting 115kg in snatch and 130kg in clean & jerk. Adarsh Kumar Gupta of Bara earned silver with a total haul of 245kg. Sagar Bhandari of Kanchanpur won the junior 105kg division gold with a total lift of 222kg: 97kg in snatch and 125kg in clean & jerk.
