It’s not PAC’s duty to fix market price: Minister Yadav
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Matrika Yadav has remarked that it is not the duty of parliamentary committee to fix the market price.Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Matrika Yadav has remarked that it is not the duty of parliamentary committee to fix the market price.
Organising a press meet at Supplies Ministry in Kathmandu on Friday, Minister Yadav said the government doesn’t need to abide by the directive of parliamentary committee.
The Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee on Thursday had directed the government to cap the price of sugar at Rs 63 per kg. “The committee has fixed the price of sugar. How was the price determined without consulting the concerned minister?” he questioned.
He said the committee’s letter would be honoured. “Now committee should also fix the price of vegetables,” said Minister Yadav, satirically. He said the Ministry doesn’t have the capacity to implement the committee’s directive. He said he will consult with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and move ahead accordingly.
The Supplies Minister repudiated the accusations of unwarranted financial transactions behind raising the market price of sugar. Denying the financial transaction as baseless, Minister Yadav has sent a letter to House Speaker demanding investigation against those involved in making such false accusation and action against the guilty.
In a meeting convened by Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee on September 20, a committee member had alleged that there was illegal transaction of Rs 690 million behind the price rising of sugar.
He said that he is in favour of taking action if there were any irregularities behind the rise of sugar price. “How can you write the news without any basis?” Yadav questioned, venting his ire. “The journalists writing anything without proof should also be punished.”
