Janakpurdham Sub-metropolis directed the police to detain chairman of ward-9 Parameshwor Sah and his family so they could continue with the road expansion drive that was halted following Sah’s refusal to demolish his house along the Bhanu Chowk-Thapa Chowk section. The road expansion is underway in Janakpur with an aid of Asian Development Bank.
Mayor Lalkishwor Yadav said the sub-metropolis was compelled to detain Sah to complete the road expansion as Sah would not let them demolish his house. “Road expansion works were stalled as Sah refused to evacuate his house. We had no option but to demolish the house,” he added.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Dipendra Shahi said Sah was briefly detained for his attempt to disrupt the road expansion. Ward chairman Sah, however, claimed that his house was at a fairly safe distance to avoid getting torn down for the ongoing road widening project, and that Mayor Yadav intentionally issued the demolition order as a revenge for having dissenting views.
