2 injured in Dharan clash

Two persons were injured in a clash between two groups over organising the Dashain fete in Dharan, Sunsari on Tuesday.
DSP SumanTilimsena of Area Police Office said that police fired five founds of warning shots into the air to control the mob. He said that police fired warning shots after the youths who were against the fair started to pelt stones and resorted to baton charge.
The fete kicked off on Sunday after Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City gave approval to the youths of Chatraline, Dharan-12 to organise the fete. But another group was against the decision to organise the fete.
Police had faced difficulties to control the clash that erupted after the youths who were against the fair vandalisedthe entrance gate installed by the organising group.
DSP Timilsena said that Sachham Shrestha and Baljit Tamang were injured in the clash.
The injured were from either side of the groups. Both of them are undergoing treatment at Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences. Doctors involved in their treatment said that they are out of danger.
The youths of Chatralineof Dharan-12 had taken approval from Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City to organise the fete from October 22 to November 14.
As many as 50 cadres of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Janamukti Party, Mongol National Organisation, Sanghiya Lumbuwan Manch, Dharan Ekata Samaj and Kirat Khumbuwan Sajha Party, among others,vandalised the entrance gate as part of their protest programme.
They also staged a demonstration outside Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City to shut down the fair after the clash.
Cadres of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) were in favour of organising the fete on the premises of Public Higher Secondary School while the cadres of Nepali Congress (NC) were against the fair. The cadres of NC under the command of Municipal President Tilak Rai had also organised a press conference warning that they would disrupt the fete.
The supporters of former NC Municipal President Kishor Rai, however, were in favour of organising the fete.
The youths of Chatralineof Dharan-12, who were against organising the fair in previous years, had decided to organise the fete this year to replace the 16-year-old ambulances from the money collected from the fair.
