Two die as temporary shelter catches fire in Dolakha

Dolakha District Police Chief DSP Basudev Pathak said the fire that engulfed Gopal Sherpa’s temporary shelter at around 2:00am this morning killed his mother Dalki Sherpa, 80, and son Mingma Sherpa, 12, on the spot, while Phursang Sherpa, 15, sustained burn injuries in the incident.
Injured Phursang has been taken to Charikot-based district hospital for medical treatment.
According to the police, Gopal’s family of seven was living in the temporary shelter. However, Gopal along with his spouse and another son were sleeping in a nearby shed when the incident occurred.
Police suspect that the fire could have started from the quilt that Dalki was using as she was sleeping close to the hearth.
The fire was brought under control with the assistance of police and locals at around 4:30am.
