After Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) assured to bring federal laws within a month, Province 2 government has said that it has stopped the process of introducing three provincial laws.
The Cabinet meeting of the provincial government on Friday decided to halt the process for a month, said Gyanendra Kumar Yadav, internal affairs and law minister of the province.
“The federal government has send the message that it will coordinate with the province in this pressing matter,” said Yadav.
According to a source, the PMO has assured Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut that federal laws on police service, public service commission and civil service will be brought either through ordinance or endorsed by the Cabinet. The central government has assured the Province 2 government that the process to depute staff as demanded by the provincial government agencies has already begun.A PMO secretary reportedly talked with Chief Minister Raut on Friday to relay Kathmandu’s message.
“Saying that it is a message from the Prime Minister KP Oli, the secretary told Chief Minister Raut that the federal government was ready to work in cooperation and coordination with the provincial government,” said the source.
Chief Minister Raut, however, claimed that he did not get any message from the PMO.
He also said that the provincial government would start hiring staff on contract basis if the federal government fails to depute.“The provincial government needs over 5000 staff to run its agencies,” he said. Conflict between the federal and provincial governments has escalated after the Province 2 Provincial Assembly endorsed the Provincial Police Act on October 13 by suspending a provincial assembly regulation.
