CIAA files graft cases against 16 persons

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed corruption cases at the Special Court against 16 persons of three different sectors on Thursday.
The anti-graft body has filed a graft case against 10 persons including then chairman of Greater Janakpur Area Development Council.
They have been accused of misappropriating Rs 7.6 million in eight construction contracts including Rangabhumi Stadium, Ganga Sagar and TirhutiyaGachi Conservation.
The case has been filed against then executive directors Surya DevSah, Rajesh Kumar Sah, GopalJha, non-gazzeted officer Usha Mishra, accountant Uttam Raj Dhakal, then sub-engineer ParshuramSah, then project engineer UpendraJha, contractor duo BishnuBahadurRaut and Pradip Narayan Sah.
The CIAA has stated in the charge-sheet that the individualscolluded to embezzle around Rs 7.6 million citing 30 percent increase in the total cost while estimating the five projects.
The CIAA has sought one year jail sentence against them and confiscation of their property worth the misappropriated amount.
Likewise, the anti-graft body has also filed a corruption case against four persons including then chief of District Health Office DhankutaBhanuBhaktaYengden.
They have been accused of misappropriating Rs 400,000 by producing fake bills while purchasing medicines among others in the fiscal year 2069/70.
The graft case has been filed against account officer DahalmanRai, non-gazzeted officer Hari Kumar Pokharel and then inoculation supervisor PrakashAdhikari.
The CIAA has sought one year jail sentence against them and confiscation of their property equivalent to the embezzled amount according to Corruption Prevention Act.
Similarly, the graft case has also been filed at the Special Court against Nain Singh Wadayak, teacher of Shankar Basic School, Kanchanpur and then supervisor of the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare MansaraShahi.
The CIAA said the duo had joined the government service by producing fake academic certificates and had pocked the government salary and perks.
In a statement issued by the CIAA, Wadayak had presented forged certificates that showed him passing the high school from Uttar Pradesh of India and Shahi had presented fake academic certificates that showed her passing Intermediate level from Banaras, India.
