A police team led by Deputy Inspector General Purna Chandra Joshi has arrived in Kavre to probe the fatal car crash incident that killed DIG Sushil Kumar Bhandari, Nepal Trade Union Congress’s leader Binod Karki and journalist Jiban Parajuli on October 27.
The team inspected the incident site at Mandandeupur Municipality-6 on Thursday.
Earlier, Kavre police had formed a separate probe team, stating that the circumstances under which the crash had occurred were suspicious.
Driver Pradip Bogati, who survived the crash, has given a statement that makes little sense, police said. While Bogati has stated that the car skidded off the road while he was trying to avoid a high tension electricity line, inspection of the crash site by a team, led by Chief District Officer Krishna Bahadur Raut, on Sunday found no evidence to corroborate Bogati’s claim. The Raut-led team has concluded that the crash was a result of reckless driving.
Bogati is currently in police custody for investigation.
