Nepal Student Union, student wing of Nepali Congress, have shut down educational institutes in Kavre district on Sunday demanding release of its student leader.
NSU’s Tapeshwor Secondary School unit chairman Krishna Dhakal was arrested by police for morphing a photo of PM KP Sharma Oli and sharing it on Facebook. NSU has called an educational strike on Sunday and Monday demanding release of Dhakal.
Dhakal later apologised and deleted the Facebook post but police arrested him and is carrying out an investigation.
NSU has also announced further protest programmes including picketing Kavre District Administration Office, calling chakka jam in district headquarters and burning PM’s effigy if Dhakal was not released immediately.
Police, meanwhile, also arrested journalist Kabiraj Dhakal for sharing Krishna’s post on Facebook. Journalist Dhakal had posted the morphed photo into a group chat operated by police.
