The protesters began demonstrating from early morning by placing Hussein’s body in the middle of the road. They demanded resignation of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, accusing him of failing to maintain law and order in the country.
The protesters warned of intensifying their protest if their five-point demand is not addressed at the earliest.
Arresting the culprits and declaring Hussein a martyr are some of the key demands of the Hussein family.
Two motorcycle-borne assailants had shot dead Hussein, an employee of Nepal Electricity Authority, on the banks of Sunsari Morang Irrigation Canal at Ranigaun on Wednesday morning. Hussein and his wife were on a morning walk at the time of the incident.
The protesters, majority of whom were from the Muslim community, also demanded that the authorities investigate the attacks that were being carried out against Muslims in recent times. They were referring to the murder of Khursid Ansari by Indian assailants in Bhutaha, Sunsari, a few months ago.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Gyanendra Phuyal said the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police was investigating into the murder case.
