Government has clarified about the price of vehicles for president and vice president following criticism from various quarters over the vehicle’s price.
Government spokesperson Gokul Baskota said the price was not of a single vehicle but of the sets of vehicles required for the president’s motorcade. In a press meet on Thursday, Baskota said criticisms against the president were baseless and claims made against her held no truth.
“Rs 180 million is not for a single vehicle, it is also for purchasing other vehicles in the president’s motorcade which follows and guides the president’s vehicle,” Baskota said.
Baskota also defended the government’s move to purchase the vehicle saying the decision was made by erstwhile Sher Bahadur Deuba-led cabinet. He said president and vice president were the symbols of country’s republican setup and accused those against the system were spreading negative publicity to foil the system that was in its early stage.
Baskota claimed president and vice president never made demands for vehicles and it was government’s responsibility to provide them with one. Lack of vehicles also shamed the government and the state when foreign head of states brought their own vehicles when they visited Nepal.
