The Asia Pacific Summit-2018 has kicked off in the Capital on Saturday.
Prime Minsiter KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the summit amid a function organised at the Boudha-based Hotel Hyatt this morning.
The theme for his year’s Asia Pacific Summit is ‘Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity, and Universal Values’.
Addressing the programme, PM Oli said that the 21st century should be a common initiative for favourable justice, peace, equality, development and prosperity.
As climate change is a challenge to development and human existence, he said that efforts should be made to stop the melting of the mountains.
He also shared about the success of the peace process, constitution making and the post-election phase of development and prosperity in Nepal.
Incumbent heads-of-state and heads-of-government and high level officials of various countries are attending the summit organised by Universal Peace Federation, a South Korea based “inter-religious” organisation.
The summit will discuss various issues like peace, development, good governance and role of Parliament, climate change and role of media among others.
Though the Nepal government is not the organiser, it has taken responsibility to provide security to the guests.
This is the first extended international summit being held in Nepal after the fourth BIMSTEC Summit held on August 30-31.
Earlier, the government had adopted odd-even vehicle number plate system in the Kathmandu Valley to make the mobility of foreign delegates smooth during the summit. Later, the system was withdrawn bearing in mid inconveniences faced by the people.
Myanmar State Counsellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Aung San Suu Kyi and Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen were invited as special guests by the government of Nepal to attend the summit. (With inputs from RSS)
