Parliamentary panel to grill ambassador nominees on Sunday
No complaints have been filed against the four ambassador nominees
Dec 6, 2018-
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has decided to quiz the ambassador nominees for India, Israel, Malaysia, and the UAE on Sunday.
On November 15, the government had named Nilambar Acharya as the ambassador nominee to India; Anjan Shakya to Israel, Uday Raj Pandey to Malaysia, and Krishna Prasad Dhakal to the UAE.
Laxman Lal Karna, chairman of the committee, on Wednesday said the nominees will be endorsed if they clear the hearing process. Earlier last week, the hearing committee had called for complaints against the four ambassador nominees, explaining why they are not fit to hold the post.
Though there was criticism from Nepali Congress, and a section of the general public over Shakya’s nomination on account of her being a close relative of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the committee has not received any complaints against her.
Shakya was nominated as a replacement to Niranjan Thapa, who was appointed by the erstwhile Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government.
Similarly, no complaints have been filed against three other nominees.
The only complaint received by the committee was regarding lack of inclusion during the nomination process.
