Federalism should be made stronger: Prime Minister Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the federalism should be made stronger in Nepal by learning from experiences.

While addressing the first meeting of Inter-State Council in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu on Sunday, Oli said the country is in its initial stage of implementing federalism.

Saying that federalism is a new issue for Nepal, he said it should be made stronger in an organisational way by our efforts.

“We might have faced some problems in adopting new concepts like chief minister, the office of province minister and residence in practical way,” he said, giving an example, “N player will be champion right after entering the field. The player will be champion by the rigorous practice. Federalism is a new game for us. But we will be proved as a champion.”

Oli said the government should intensify its pace in implementing federalism.

He said the country should be moved ahead through cooperation of federal, province and local level.

At today’s meeting, Province 1 Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai, Province 2 Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut, Province 3 Chief Minister Dor Mani Paudel and Gandaki Province Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung floated their views.

The remaining three chief ministers will put forth their views on Monday.

Secretaries of Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Administration and Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs appraised the meeting about the works carried out by various ministries for the implementation of federalism.
