Suspected robber killed in police shootout

A suspected robber died in a shootout with police near the Nepal-India border in Sunsari district on Sunday night. Police said the gunfight ensued when a group of armed men opened fire at a patrol team at Musahari Tole in Koshi Rural Municipality.

DSP Gyanendra Phuyal of the District Police Office, Sunsari, said the patrol team tried to stop the group of robbers from entering into Nepali territory when the armed men opened fire at them. The team fired back in defence, added DSP Phuyal.

The suspected robber died on the spot while the others fled the scene, said police. The deceased, who seems to be in his thirties, is yet to be identified. The body was taken to BP Koirala Health Science in Dharan for post-mortem.Police also recovered firearms and their ammunitions from the scene.
